Unfortunately we will not be attending the Sauder Village Fiber Arts Fest or the Southern Indiana Fiber Festival this year, but we hope to be back for 2018. Our events calendar has been updated accordingly.

Changes to our hours once again
Three festivals down, five more to go! Festival season is a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun too. Our next one is the Mid-Ohio Fiber Fair in Worthington, Ohio on June 3 and 4.
On the website, we’ve removed the recurring stitch night entries from our calendar so it’s cleaner and you can see upcoming events more easily. You can view the calendar here. Facebook is the best place to see our upcoming stitch nights, or just call or e-mail us!
And last but certainly not least, because life is unpredictable, effective the week of May 22nd, we’ll be going back to being open only on Thursday night, Saturday, and Sunday.
Two Years Later: Growth and Change
2016 was a great year, and we’ve grown to fill our space a little more!

Our collection of Shepherd’s Wool from Stonehedge Fiber Mill has expanded. Perfection Worsted, Perfection Tapas, and Perfection Lights have expanded as well.

We have more notions boards now, both in the main room and in the snack room. We’ve added interchangeable needles to our fixed needle collection.

For those looking for warmer-weather yarns, we’ve added Tatamy Tweed DK, a cotton-acrylic blend that’s also nice for baby items. Bartlett Yarns are excellent for felted items for those REALLY cold days. We also have hand-knit items in a range of colors, types, and fibers.

La Espiga is one of our favorite new additions; it’s a shiny nylon cord that comes in a wide range of fantastic colors.

We’re also adding cross-stitch supplies in addition to our Kreinik fibers! We’re starting small but will be adding more items as the year goes on. If you have any requests, let us know! We now have pre-cut cross-stitch fabrics and Mill Hill stitching and beading kits.
The biggest announcement is that we’re expanding our hours! Starting this week we’ll be open from 11 AM until 4 PM Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 on Sunday. We’ll still be open 6 to 8 for stitch night on Thursday, but will be closed 4 to 6 to regroup. These hours may change a bit week to week depending on other circumstances, but we’ll try to announce these changes in advance.
Our first show this year will be the Jay County Fiber Fest in Portland, Indiana on March 10 and 11–we look forward to seeing you at the new location!
Our first pattern!
A handful of people at the Michigan Fiber Festival asked for the pattern for the brown scarf that was hanging in our booth; after some polishing to make it more official-looking, here it is! Textural Scarf
It’s also available on Ravelry here.
It’s an easy pattern consisting of just knits and purls, but it creates an interestingly-patterned basketweave.
It hasn’t been test knit, so it may contain errors. Feel free to contact us if you find one or have a question!
Late Summer Update
August is here, ushering in the second half of fiber fest season and the long, slow slide from midsummer to autumn. We have a few more festivals scheduled for the season:
-
The Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan, Michigan
A Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs, Ohio
The Sauder Village Fiber Arts Fest in Archbold, Ohio
The Autumn Fiber Festival in Ashland, Ohio
More info about these can be found on the events section of our page.
We’re also expanding our cross-stitch product offerings to include fabrics, beads, and kits, and we’ve just received a shipment of Omega Yarns’ #9 La Espiga, a nylon cord that comes in a wide range of vibrant colors and is very popular for crochet.

Last but not least, we want to thank everyone who voted and helped to spread the word about our FedEx Small Business Grant entry. We’re pretty sure we made the cut to the final hundred, but we were not among those selected by FedEx as the winners. While we’re disappointed, we’ll be ready next year to enter as soon as the contest opens!
Our plans to rejuvenate the property next door will continue even without the help of the grant; we’ll keep you updated on the progress as it develops.
Help us win a FedEx grant!
Copper Centaur Studios is participating in the FedEx Small Business Grant contest! The first selection round is based on the number votes we get. The voting period ends on June 13. You need a Facebook account to vote, and can vote once every 24 hours. The link to vote for us is here.
There are 27 entrants for Indiana. When we entered the competition on the 27th we were in 18th place; right now, two days later, we’re in 15th place!
The grant is intended not only to help a small business to grow, but to help that business better its community. It would assist us in converting two abandoned properties into an arts-centric green space.
Our inspiration is Bicentennial Park in New Albany, Indiana. Our space would provide a place for events like theatrical productions, fiber festivals, or farmer’s markets.
The abandoned properties.
Get Your Geek On!
As the fiber festival season winds down, we have one less traditional event to end our year: Starbase Indy! It’s an Indianapolis Star Trek and Stargate convention in its 18th year, running Friday through Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
